ScubaFit Brings Awareness to Physical Fitness and Diving
Bring your dive fitness resolutions to life with the first annual ScubaFit BEACH WALK, January 31st, 2009. Meet other divers and begin your morning with a fitness walk along beautiful LaJolla Shores Beach.
The BEACH WALK includes guided tours of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Pier, SIO Dive Locker, and Birch Aquarium.
The BEACH WALK runs from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the cost is $12.50 with online registration at www.scubafit.com . Space is limited and registration ends January 26th.
Sponsors for the event are Bear Naked, providing all natural granola and trail mix snacks, and La Costa Travel Agency. The event is also an opportunity to donate directly to Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Lead by Gretchen M. Ashton, CFT, NBFE, founder of ScubaFit, the BEACH WALK begins at the Gray Whale Fountain at Birch Aquarium located on the coastal campus of the University of California San Diego.
The route consists of a downhill warm-up, a stretch of flat beach and a steady uphill finish. Participation is the goal. It is appropriate for all fitness levels and ages. There are elevators and ramps throughout the course to accommodate orthopedic and physically challenged individuals.
The ScubaFit BEACH WALK combines an appreciation for our oceans with marine conservation and the importance of physical fitness for scuba diving in a spectacular setting. January is prime Gray Whale migration viewing from many locations throughout the Beach Walk.
“The social and environmental positive reinforcement for fitness of this event is remarkable”, says Ashton. “I personally invite all divers to bring their dive buddies, dive clubs and families for this 2009 kick-off celebration of good health.”
Other Dive Into Fitness activities this month include ScubaFit Workshops on January 22nd and 23rd, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Pure Fitness Sports Club locations in Carlsbad and San Diego, California. This is an opportunity to participate in discussion and get information about exercise for scuba diving. The workshops include a short presentation about ScubaFit, a question and answer session and sample Fit-Diver Workouts.
