PADI launches new Tec Sidemount Diver course

(DiverWire) PADI has launched the first of two sidemount scuba diving certification programs. The PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course is currently available, with the PADI Recreational Diver Sidemount Specialty course available soon.

Originating in the cave diving community, sidemount diving configurations have attracted the attention of not only open-circuit tec divers, but also recreational divers in recent years. Sidemount diving offers options for carrying equipment, reducing lower back strain and providing a backup gas supply. Equipment manufacturers are meeting the increased demand for sidemount with dedicated buoyancy control devices, harnesses and regulator configurations.

The PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course covers the use of sidemount configuration for technical diving. It has been developed for recreational divers who want to use sidemount as they enter open-circuit tec diving, as well as experienced tec divers who want to transition to sidemount.

To qualify for the PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course divers need to be certified as at least PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization), have 30 or more logged dives and be at least 18 years old. Being certified as a PADI Enriched Air Diver certification is also recommended.
