(DiverWire) Dive California, an SSI-affiliated facility in San Diego, has been training scuba divers for more than 50 years. The historic building formerly known as San Diego Divers Supply, located near Mission Bay, will be getting a new look this weekend courtesy of artist Brian Hebets.
According to store owner Michael Timm, “Anyone who is familiar with Dive California, current and former customers and those that have been around the dive industry might want to take a final look at the outside of our building because it’s not going to be the same again.”
Timm explains that Hebets, a local marine artist and avid diver, will begin painting a mural on the outside of the building as part of Dive California’s annual Season Kickoff Event. “We’re excited because not only will Brian be working on the mural all day, but we will also have product demos, a BBQ lunch and much more.”
One additional opportunity that long-time Dive California divers will want to take advantage of is the “custom tiles” that will be available for customers to paint. These tiles will be included in the final building upgrades. Timms says the tiles provide a way for the past, current and future divers to have a permanent role in the look of the facility.
