On 24th April, PADI Instructor, Kim McKenny will be scuba diving a half marathon at PADI Dive Center, Scubafish, Koh Lanta, Thailand to raise money for charity.
Kim has chosen to support the victims of the recent earthquakes in Japan, landslides in Thailand and Project AWARE Foundation. Commenting on her reasons for undertaking this event Kim said, “I saw first-hand both the immediate and longer-term impacts of the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004, on friends and communities in Thailand (and in particular Phi Phi). The devastating struggles facing those directly affected in Japan at this time compels me to connect personally with this tragic event, to act, and to show support.” Added Kim, “As a dive instructor I feel privileged on a daily basis to enjoy, see and share the wonder of the underwater world, and have deliberately scheduled this event to be near to Dive for Earth Day in the hope of raising awareness and funds for Project AWARE.”
What exactly is she going to do? According to the Scubafish website, “On Sunday 24th April, 2011 at 10:00, Kim McMenemy (an instructor at Scubafish), will scuba dive a half-marathon 13.1 miles in the White Rock Resort Pool (Ko Lanta, Thailand), stopping merely to swap scuba tanks and remain hydrated.
