(DiverWire) Dive Travel Wholesaler, Deep Blue Adventures is teaming up early next month with equipment manufacturer Aqua Lung and several local dive retailers to host Finding The Cure event at Whitestar Quarry in Gibsonburg, Ohio, close to the company’s headquarters and where Deep Blue’s owner and family frequently dive.
The event is being held Saturday August 4th from 10am – 4pm Eastern Time and includes a silent auction, raffle tickets with door prizes, a Bar-B-Q lunch and more. Each year the $10 fee to participate in the Finding The Cure dive, as well 100% of all other proceeds raised that day by the various activities go to a designated cancer organization or charity such as the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio. This year, however things have struck a little closer to home, and all proceeds are to be donated to an individual and her family suffering with breast cancer that has been a part of the diving scene for over 27 years.
Prizes include thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment from Aqua Lung, as well as more scuba equipment, dive classes, travel and other goodies donated by numerous participating dive stores from Ohio and surrounding states which include Aqua Hut, New Wave Scuba and local PADI Course Director Patrix’s Scuba. Also a sponsor for the second year in a row is Buddy Dive Resort who donated a one week Hotel and Dive package towards the cause.
Last year alone, divers and industry professionals raised over $7300, with the largest single auction item being a SUUNTO D9 fetching $1100. The overwhelming support received from local divers over the past three years has spurred Brian Miller from Aqua Lung and the local dive businesses involved to continue what has now become an annual event.
As well as the chance to walk away with amazing prizes, the event provides the opportunity for divers to gather from all over the region, meet new buddies, spend a fun day diving in their backyard, challenge their skills, and at the same time contribute to an incredible great cause while spending time doing something they love.
If you plan to participate in the event you are asked to consider pre-registering online. Divers who cannot make it to Ohio that weekend but would like to contribute in the fight against Breast Cancer, can do so either registering and paying for a ticket even if they cannot go, or by purchasing a special Dive Pin from Deep Blue Adventures, where the entire amount goes to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
More information on the event and the Dive Pins can be found under the Good Will Diving section on Deep Blue Adventures’ website or by contacting Cheryl Patterson at Cheryl@DeepBlueAdventures.com or calling 888-266-2209 ext. 101.
