DiverWire.com sponsors UW Racer Lisa Mongy for 2011 Wreck Racing Circuit

(DiverWire) – With the start of the 2011 Formula H2O Racing League set for Saturday, DiverWire.com is pleased to announces its sponsorship of racer Lisa Mongy for the 2011 season. Mongy is scheduled to participate in all of the US-based races this season. Based in Miami, Mongy raced in three contests last year, placing first in one event and third in two other races.

“The Wreck Racing League is an exciting opportunity for scuba divers to have fun, get wet and compete against one another in a friendly (or not so friendly) environment,” said DiverWire.com President Scott D. Jones. “Lisa Mongy has been supportive of the League and the Formula H2o circuit from the beginning. We are pleased to sponsor her competitive efforts in 2011.”

Mongy, who is also a frequent contributing writer to the DiverWire.com website, is a veteran of the South Florida Scuba Diving community. An SSI Instructor, Mongy has worked with Underwater Unlimited  in Miami for many years and is very visible throughout the area.

As part of its sponsorship of Mongy, DiverWire will be providing regular updates about the Wreck Racing League and H2o Circuit including possible interviews with competitors, posting results and even video coverage of the races.

The first race of the season is the Vandenberg Underwater Grand Prix to be held in Key West, Florida. Participants will be racing in several different classifications around the popular USS Vandenberg dive site. The Vandenberg was sunk two years ago with great fanfare and provides an exceptional site for the first race of the season.

The Wreck Racing League and Formula H2O are working to spread worldwide awareness to the necessity of artificial reefs and their vital role in our oceans. In addition to artificial reefs being a crucial ecosystem building block, the creation of Formula H2O, using ship wrecks as race tracks, has developed a new recreational demand for these reefs. Formula H2O and the artificial reefs are not just for the racers, spectators of all ages, divers and snorkelers, are encouraged to come join in the action.
