Hot New Video from Fiji on Shark Free Marina Initiative

(DiverWire) Contributor Jillian Morris shares this important news about The Shark Free Initiative AND a new video that has just been released.

The goal of the Shark Free Marina Initiative is to reduce global shark mortality rates through prohibiting the killing of or landing of sharks within marinas that sign on. It started in the Bahamas, with the Bimini Sands Resort & Marina being the first marina in the world to sign on and has gained momentum around the globe.

The tiny island nation of Fiji has jumped onboard whole-heartedly with 21 marinas making the commitment thus far. Beqa Adventure Divers and Matava Eco Resort got the ball rolling and really catalyzed the spread of the campaign.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend some time in Fiji and created this PSA about the Shark Free Marinas and the amazing sharks of Fiji. As a regional board member for the initiative, I want to continue to encourage other marinas and organizations to get involved.
