(DiverWire) Mark Caney, a Vice-President of dive training agency PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa, has written a new book Dolphin Way. His motivation? To preserve dolphins and their natural habitats. The book was written with divers very much in mind, and anyone who has been underwater will feel at home in this world right away.
The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society said it sends a “powerful environmental message”, while the UK Sport Diver Magazine said it “masterfully weaves a believable tale of dolphin life”.
Caney spent time in the military, then went on to establish a dive center in Cyprus and lead one of the largest coastal expeditions of its kind into the unchartered depths of the East African coast. But he became one of Europe’s most influential – and well-known – divers after becoming a Vice President of PADI in 1996.
He went on to becoming pivotal in developing many of the agency’s technical diving courses, and is now also the Vice President of the PADI Technical Diving Division.
Dolphin Way, his first novel, follows the story of Sky, a male dolphin who unwittingly finds himself caught up in a violent battle for love, life and values. In order to save the lives of his closest friends, Sky must decide between the two female dolphins who challenge everything he believes in.
Mark, the President of the European Underwater Federation (EUF) – a European organization that represents more than three million divers – hopes the novel will raise awareness of the creatures and encourage more people to protect them.
He said: “As well as being an entertaining read, Dolphin Way is meant to make people aware of the threats affecting the marine world in general, and dolphins in particular.
“The hope is that if people are shown the beauty and wonder of the dolphins’ world they will want to conserve it.”
A spokesman for the publisher, AquaPress, added: “Dolphin Way is a wonderful book, and we are delighted to have Mark as one our authors.”
Dolphin Way is available now as a paperback and as an eBook. Go to www.dolphin-way.com for more information.
