(DiverWire) GoPro is set to release the brand new Hero3+ camera, a significant upgrade to the Hero 3 model. Available in Silver or Black Edition, both cameras have seen a major overhaul both in form and function. The camera boasts a slimmer frame, a 12 mega pixel camera, and video recording at 30 frames-per-second, in addition to new shooting modes and built-in WiFi.
The GoPro Hero3+ is 20% smaller than the Hero3, and 15% lighter – however, it doesn’t mean you’ll have to buy all new accessories and mounts for it. Anything that fits the Hero3 will continue to work with the Hero3+. The reduction in size and weight makes the camera even better suited for wearing on a helmet, a dive mask, or a chest harness. The buttons on the underwater housing have also increased in size, making it easier to snap a shot even through thick gloves.
It’s not just the outside that’s received an overhaul – the lens, processor, microphones, battery, and programming have all been redesigned and revamped. Between the brand new lens and improved software, the new Hero3+ takes sharper, higher resolution images than its predecessor. An “Auto Low Light” mode automatically adjusts the frame rate based on current lighting conditions. There’s even a new “SuperView” mode that takes pictures and video in widescreen 16:9 format to capture more of the action.
The improved software comes in the form of an improved “4x faster” GoPro App for your smartphone. The GoPro App can remotely connect a tablet or smartphone to the camera, allowing you to grab photos and video wirelessly and send them via email or upload them to social media sites. A packaged-in WiFi remote also allows you to assume direct control of up to 50 cameras from up to 600 feet away.
The camera’s battery has been drastically enhanced to 1180mAh, up from the Hero 3’s 1050mAh. Functionally, this jumps the battery life up to 30% longer, and in a smaller housing.
The pricing is as follows: grab a GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition for $399.99, a GoPro Hero3+ Silver Edition for $299.00, and a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver Edition with Black Pak Lighting System for $699.98.
