Hyperbaric Hope – When Going to the Chamber is a GOOD Thing!

By Laura Betts, HyperbaricsRX

For years, conventional medicine thought of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) only as a treatment for decompression sickness, more commonly referred to as “The Bends”. However, the use of HBOT is becoming increasingly common in general practice as more doctors become acquainted with new applications.

Doctors now realize that HBOT has other uses, including the treatment of non-healing wounds, Carbon Monoxide poisoning, various infections, damage caused by radiation treatments, near-drowning, near-hanging, brain and nerve disorders, cardiovascular disorders, and some digestive system disorders. Additionally, HBOT when used in combination with other conventional modalities creates dramatic, beneficial changes that are unachievable when used independently.

There are over 150 conditions currently being treated worldwide with HBOT including; Autism, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Multiple Sclerosis, Lyme Disease, Wound Healing, Parkinson’s, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, ADD/ADHD and so many more.  Additional applications include wellness, performance enhancement, sports injury recovery and detoxification.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a method of administering pure oxygen at greater than atmospheric pressure to a patient in order to improve or correct conditions. By providing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber you are able to deliver 10-15 times more oxygen then if delivered at sea level or at normal atmospheric levels. Some of the effects HBOT has are to promote the growth of new blood vessels, decrease swelling and inflammation, deactivate toxins, increase the body’s ability to fight infections, clear out toxins and metabolic waste products, and improve the rate of healing.

ChamberGirlPreviously treatments which are also called “dives” were only administered in hospitals and clinics. Treatment regimens usually incorporate twenty to forty dives in a series and can cost as much as $10,000 per series.  Treatments are usually administered once a day over a period of four to six weeks with transportation to and from the physical location of the chamber as the primary obstacle for most. Since chambers are often hours away (if at all), the time constraints of a daily regimen when combined with the costs prohibit many families from trying or continuing despite noticeable improvements. A new age in holistic healing has dawned with the introduction of portable in-home hyperbaric chambers.

For less than the average cost of single block of treatments individuals can rent a system for their home and have an ANDI Certified Technician set it up and train them how to safely operate it. The in-home training only takes a few hours and enables the family to comfortably and safely administer the treatment to their loved one. Some even decide to out-right purchase their own system which is an even more convenient and cost effective alternative to renting.

Extremely easy to use, the systems are surprisingly comfortable with ample room inside for a parent and a child.  The compressor operates using standard 110 volt electricity and simply plugs in to a regular wall outlet.  There are simple controls both on the inside and the outside for safe, trouble-free operation.  Additional options, accessories and customization are available to ensure the system best meets each individuals needs.
