(DiverWire) Earlier this week, officials from the Aggressor and Dancer Fleets announced a new partnership with Scuba Schools International. Under this ground-breaking arrangement, guests traveling on an Aggressor or Dancer vessel can receive the SSI Advanced Adventurer Certification at no charge.
According to Wayne Hasson, President of Aggressor and Dancer Fleets “The Advanced Adventurer certification fits right in with the LiveAboard Lifestyle we offer. Our guests are already doing these dives each week and this new program creates a way to document those dives and offer credit for those dive experiences.”
The experience-based Advanced Adventurer Certification allows divers to obtain an introduction to five specialty areas of diving. This will help the diver decide what specialties they may want to continue their training with in the future. On board Aggressor Fleet and Dancer Fleet yachts, a combination of 12 different specialties may be available depending on the destination, including Night Diving, Shark Diving, Deep Diving, Wreck Diving, Boat Diving, U/W Naturalist, U/W Navigation, Perfect Buoyancy, Nitrox, Computer Diving, Scooter Diving, and Digital Photography.
To complete the certification, divers simply document their dives in their logbook and have a crewmember fill out the Advanced Adventurer registration. Upon returning home, they mail in the registration form along with a picture to Aggressor or Dancer Fleet headquarters where the card is processed and returned to the diver.
In the SSI Total Teaching System, training and experience are the key to creating safe divers. The experience of a LiveAboard trip and the documented specialty dives, which are part of the Advanced Adventurer course, travel home with the student. There at the local SSI Dive Center, those experiences may be applied towards the completion of specialty training courses. For some specialty courses, full dive credits may be achieved and only the academic work needs to be completed. For others it may require an additional dive with a local instructor. When four specialty courses and 24 dives have been completed, divers earn the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver rating or the Master Diver rating is earned by completing 4 specialties, the Stress and Rescue course and 50 dives.
