(DiverWire) Five-star dive resort Davy Jones Locker opened a new branch in Thailand this month, on the island of Koh Lipe. In honor of the grand opening, they’re also offering free dormitory accommodations for all diving courses.
Koh Lipe is a small island to the west of Malaysia, just bordering the mainland of Thailand to the south. The island is known for its beautiful snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities – not only does it have extremely clear water, but the ecosystem hosts 25% of the world’s tropical fish species. The resort itself is located on Pattaya Beach, one of the three main beaches of the island. The island is secluded and intimate – it takes just an hour or so to circle the perimeter of the island on foot.
The dormitories at Davy Jones Locker feature large bunk beds, air-conditioning, security lockers, shared bathroom, and free WiFi. The only requirement for the dormitories being free is signing up for any PADI Dive Courses. The “Standard Double” hotel room includes a double bed, private bathroom, and satellite TV, while the “Deluxe Double” room also includes air-conditioning. The “Superior Double” comes with all the same, plus a private balcony with seating.
The resort offers a number of PADI dive courses, including the Basic and Advanced Open Water Courses, the Rescue Diver course, the EFR course, and both Divemaster and Instructor Courses. It’s also possible to join the PADI Divemaster internship, which focuses on preparing scuba divers for a professional career as a divemaster – the program provides learning materials, books, accommodation, equipment, and even application fees all in one convenient package.
The Davy Jones Locker Diving Resort also offers fun-diving trips for divers who are already certified. Each trips offers gear, a certified Divemaster, and refreshments, alongside a 10% discount for divers who bring their own equipment. Day trips include beach dives, boat dives, combinations, night dives, and wreck dives. Packages with multiple dives can also be picked up for those staying on the island longer.
Koh Lipe island is a fully-equipped tourist destination as well, featuring other resorts, multiple bars and dozens of restaurants and shops. For more information, see http://www.divekohlipe.com.
