Nominations now open for 2013 DAN Rolex Diver of the Year Award

(DiverWire) The DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year Award is easily one of the most prestigious awards given out in the dive industry. This award recognizes an outstanding individual who has significantly contributed to scuba diving safety or the mission of DAN. The DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year receives a specially engraved Rolex Submariner watch.

Over the years hundreds of deserving individuals have been nominated for the DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year award. However, only one individual is recognized each year. Although many past winners of the Award, now in its 25th Year, have been noted industry professionals, the nominations are open to divers of all levels. Award criteria are not based on an individual’s area of expertise or experience level, rather the focus is on the impact of their work on diving safety.

“We are very proud to have partnered with Rolex in recognizing an individual who has worked hard to help support DAN’s mission and make diving safer for everyone” said Dan Orr, president of DAN.

Winners of the DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year Award receive a specially engraved Rolex Submariner dive watch along with a commemorative plaque. The award ceremony will take place at Beneath the Sea in March, 2013.

If you would like to submit a nomination, simply send a brief description of the individual’s merits and contributions to dive safety or the mission of DAN to Garrett Young via e-mail at gyoung@dan.org. Nominations can also be sent via traditional mail to Young c/o DAN/Rolex Award, Divers Alert Network, 6 West Colony Place, Durham, NC, 27705.

All nominations must be received no later than December 31, 2012.
