FREE Diver safety programs announced to prepare for Florida Mini-Lobster Season

(DiverWire) As the Florida Lobster Mini-Season and regular Lobster Season begins, thousands of scuba divers will take to the water in search of the tasty crustaceans. Unfortunately, medical conditions, poor diving procedures, equipment problems and boat safety checks are often factors in diving accidents during this peak time of the diving season.

ryd_mvalueRevive Your Dive! Is a FREE two-day event where divers receive services and training to become better prepared for the diving activities of Florida’s busiest diving time – Lobster Season. Divers will receive a free PADI Scuba Review course, a free fitness to dive consultation with medics from Divers Alert Network, a free scuba equipment inspection, and a free boat safety check (if brought to event on a trailer) from the USCG Auxiliary.

Reef Ministries, a Fort Lauderdale based diving ministry, started this event 3 years ago and Capt Gary Mace with Conch Republic Divers contacted event coordinator, Tec Clark, to see if we could promote the same idea here in the Florida Keys.  Tec was overjoyed to have such an event take place in one of the busiest areas for mini Lobster season, the Florida Keys.

Participating dive shops from Key Largo, Tavernier, and Islamorada will participate in the program and include: Atlantis Dive Center, Horizon Divers, Conch Republic Divers and Islamorada Dive Center.

“Divers do understand the importance of scuba refresher training, health screens, equipment inspections, and boat safety checks but are often reluctant to pursue them due to the high costs and time associated with doing them. Revive Your Dive’s goal is to reduce all the barriers, so that divers get these essential services all at one time, all at one location, and all for free,” states Capt Gary, owner of Conch Republic Divers and Scubaocity’s dive shop management systems.

RYDLogo_600The two-day event will take place on Saturday and Sunday July 20th and 21st, 2013 at the Florida Keys Visitor Center located at mile marker 106.2.  Participants need to be certified divers with a national or international scuba-training agency.
