Well-known dive industry retailer Rick Newton passes away

(DiverWire) The dive industry lost a well-known and popular figure last month as Rick Newton of Rick’s Dive ‘N Travel Center in Little Rock, Arkansas passed away.

Robyn Newton writes this week, “This year is our store’s 35th anniversary, so we are going to celebrate Rick and the anniversary with RUTH (Rick’s Underwater Treasure Hunt) and memorial dive with some of the proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Assn for research. We are aiming for an early June event. Rick’s ashes will be scattered in the waters of Wakatobi and along the Buffalo River in Arkansas.”

The following statement was posted on the store’s website:

Our founder, Rick Newton, lost his hard fought battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease January 27, 2013.

Robyn, Sandy, Tom, Mike and our staff of instructors will continue providing divers with the same service and professionalism our customers have come to expect at Rick’s.

But most of all, we will continue to have fun “blowing bubbles” and training divers. Rick would have wanted that.
