(DiverWire) – Western Illinois University located in Macomb, IL (about 40 miles east of the Mississippi) has been teaching students to scuba dive since 1968. Recently they implemented a first of its kind degree in scuba that prepares students to undertake careers that use scuba on the job.
Law enforcement, marine biology, recreation, parks, and tourism, kinesiology, and business are all major courses of study at WIU. Now when a student majors in one of these and minors in scuba they are far more prepared to hit the ground running when starting their career.
This program has grown so far and so fast that WIU is looking to hire an additional full time scuba instructor to help the program progress. This is a nine month position with full benefits, a month off for winter break, a week off each semester, and three months in the summer.
