Popular Poseidon dive watch from Reactor becoming a scuba diving favorite (video review)

(DiverWire) Last Fall, Reactor Watches announced a new dive watch designed specifically for scuba divers. Previews of the Poseidon dive watch were received exceptionally well and the new 1000-Meter dive watch is now available at scuba diving retail stores who carry the Reactor line.

“Our new Poseidon has a number of firsts for us in terms of technology. In addition to the extreme 1000M depth rating, the watch features an internal rotating bezel that can actually be adjusted underwater, and meets or exceeds the ISO 6425 Professional Dive Watch standard,” says Jimmy Olmes, president of Southern California-based Reactor.

According to a release from the company, “Reactor’s most seaworthy model to date is built on a 48mm case forged from solid stainless steel. The internal and external rotating bezels give divers the ability to time different aspects of a dive, such as bottom time and a safety stop. The 17mm thickness is evidence of Poseidon’s robust build, as both crystal and caseback are substantially thickened to withstand the nearly 1500psi of pressure required to give the watch a 1000M depth rating.  The watch will be available with a black and red dial with rubber strap ($550 MSRP), a yellow and black dial with 2-tone IP black stainless bracelet ($575 MSRP), or a limited edition black and orange combination that will include both bands for a $900 suggested retail.  The stainless bracelets include a wetsuit expander, another first for Reactor.”

Reactor Limited Edition Review:

The Poseidon Limited Edition is a numbered run of 250 and comes packaged in a luxurious gift box set which includes a 2-tone stainless steel bracelet, a rubber strap, tools and extra screwbars to change the bands. The LE version features a more sophisticated self-charging kinetic auto-quartz movement that never needs a battery (replacing the 10-year lithium powered quartz movement of the standard models), an exhibition caseback revealing a black-plated charging rotor, and Reactor’s exclusive Never Dark® illumination system.

Never Dark® is the first technology to combine the intense brightness of Superluminova with the multi-year longevity of tritium, providing optimal illumination under all lighting conditions.  Because it can take up to 30 minutes for the human eye to fully adjust to the dark, Superluminova’s intense peak brightness makes a Never Dark® watch easily visible during that initial period.  In situations where the watch will remain in the dark for many hours, the tritium will remain visible for years, even if the watch is never returned to the light.

“Never Dark® is the only watch illumination to ‘self-adjust’ to conditions, with a response curve similar to that of the human eye,” added Olmes.
