Divetech Opens New Facility on Grand Cayman

DiveTechDivetech is hosting it’s official grand opening of the new shop at Lighthouse Point in Grand Cayman on Saturday, June 27 from 1 – 5pm. Divers are invited to drop by and see the new facility and to participate in all of the activities.

“We closed our shop at Turtle Reef in late 2007 and it’s so rewarding to finally be moved into our new shop at Lighthouse Point after construction and working from our temporary tent base. We started our diving operation in 1994 on the NW Point and then in 2000 we opened our second location at Cobalt Coast Dive Resort which we are still operating from as it’s an excellent shore dive and partnership with Arie Barendrecht, owner of Cobalt Coast.  It’s just great to be back on the incredible North West Point again where we started 15 years ago. To celebrate the new shop, we’ll be offering a special through the end of the year for $6. tanks – air or nitrox. Plus we have free diving for the teens in our Summer Splash promotion, so it’s a great value for diving families. We’re also proud to be totally powered by wind and solar, it’s a very environmentally friendly dive shop!”

Included in the line up for the afternoon activities are free tanks (air and nitrox) and weights for shore diving, excellent snorkeling off the dock and door prizes throughout the afternoon. A live remote radio broadcast from 1 – 3pm will be followed by live entertainment performed by Chuck and Barrie of Sea ‘n B from 3 – 5pm.

“The diving is just spectacular, so full of marine life and very close to shore. Its easy access to the deep wall or the mini wall with underwater navigation lines and markers in place to make it safe and easy to explore the diversity of dive sites at Lighthouse Point. Tanks are free for the grand opening to encourage people to come out and see for themselves Cayman’s newest dive site in West Bay.” said Jay Easterbrook, co-owner of Divetech and the builder of Lighthouse Point.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 3pm, followed by a champagne toast to officially christen the new dive shop. A rum tasting hosted by Seven Fathoms Rum, Cayman’s locally distilled rum, will also be available.

Tours of the new ‘green’ condos will be on offer from Cayman Islands Sotheby’s International Realty. Visitors can see the wind turbine and solar power systems, gray water and all of the recycled components that are being used in the building of the new 2-bedroom condos at Lighthouse Point that are just a month or so away from completion. “Many people talk about renewable energy and water management systems for environmental reasons, which are of course extremely important. But what this can mean to a business such as Divetech or a home owner is that not only are they making a positive contribution to the environment, but also that they benefit from a significant saving in monthly expenses. I think that helps to really bring the benefits home on a month to month basis. The motto that Jay and Nancy have given Lighthouse Point is “Living Lightly on the Planet” and they are accomplishing that in this eco-friendly development” noted Sheena Conolly of Sotheby’s International.

Divetech’s new site is located at 571 NW Point Road in West Bay, Grand Cayman, 1/2 mile south of the Cayman Turtle Farm on the ocean. Drop by, take a dive on your next visit and see this spectacular dive site at Lighthouse Point.
