(DiverWire) The popular Shark Shootout photography event will be returning to Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas in Nassau, Bahamas. Hosted by Stuart Cove and highly-acclaimed marine photographer Stephen Frink, the event will be returning after several years on hiatus.
This year’s Shark Shootout will be November 13-18 and will include five nights lodging at one of Nassau’s most popular resorts, the Nassau Sheraton Beach. Participants will join the Stuart Cove’s team for four days of diving in some of the most productive shark photo venues in the world. Nowhere else offers the sheer quantity of Caribbean reef sharks. The reason Hollywood comes to Stuart Cove’s for shark action are the same reasons Shark Shootout exists: proximity, dependability, water clarity, and infrastructure.
“This isn’t just a standard shark diving experience, Cove explains. “This event is more ‘extreme access’ for experienced divers and photographers.” During the five day event, participants will receive hands-on training in shark diving safety, capturing the best images, digital workflow and post production, and how to interact with feeders to assure the optimal shark portrait.
Shark photography is very dramatic, typically done with wide angles lenses up close and personal. Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas has been a premier shark diving site for many years. The seasoned and professional staff provide an exceptional experience, expert training, and the perfect atmosphere to capture a variety of shark encounters.
“Stuart Cove’s is a destination is optimized for shark photography,” Frink points out. “There is a lot that goes into making a good shark image and we’ll be putting all of the participants right into the action – because that’s what is necessary to get the best shots. And then we’ll teach them how to get the most out of their digital images in our classroom sessions.”
Frink outlined at least five different venues (walls, shallow reefs, wrecks, surface, and cages) that will be used during the event.
Participants need to be Advanced Open Water certified scuba divers and provide their own equipment. The program includes classroom training sessions in both shark awareness, photo techniques and post-production.
