(DiverWire) – The Underwater Journal today announced a contest for scuba divers to produce the best underwater video. According to UJ officials, the contest is likely the first of its kind because the judging will be done by the GENERAL DIVING PUBLIC.
“There are many different contests out there, but this is going to be different,” says Walt Stearns, Publisher of the Underwater Journal.”We have applied a simplified voting concept. Think of it as American Idol® gone underwater video. Taking a slightly different twist, the Underwater Journal (UWJ) has opened the contest up to UWJ magazine subscribers (UWJ is a free online publication). Rather than leave the winning choice to a select panel of judges, contest winners will be based on the number of “favorite votes” cast by… anyone.”
Stearns said videos should tell a story (have a beginning, middle and end) and be limited to five minutes of running time – that’s the extent of the qualifications.
The contest is already going at full steam – to view videos that have already been submitted, go to Underwater Journal Video Contest
The grand prize winner will receive a 7-day dive trip for two to Anthony’s Key Resort in Roatan. Other prizes include Scubapro equipment, and some local diving with Jupiter Dive Center.
